European Parliament Conference- Gas and Renewables:

We are hosting a high level European Parliament conference on how gas and renewables can work together to help achieve Europe’s energy objectives.

As the European institutions begin to debate their response to the Communication on an Energy Roadmap 2050 and in the run up to the new Renewables Strategy, we believe it is an ideal time to stimulate a substantive exchange of views on this important topic, for the first time in the European Parliament.

Mrs Sartori, Chair of the ITRE Committee will be hosting the debate.  It will be held in the context of the Gas Week organised by the GasNaturally Initiative.

The GasNaturally campaign brings together seven associations representing the entire gas value chain to raise awareness on the essential role of gas in the forthcoming energy transformation. A 3D exhibition will also be held in the Parliament during this week.  The exciting and dynamic exhibition (with 3d glasses and a floor projections) is being hosted by Prof. Vladko  Panayotov MEP  - held on the 3rd floor balcony Altiero Spinelli Building (ASP) and will be opened by an inaugeration cocktail reception with Director General of DG Energy Phillip Lowe, and  comments by  Gaston Franco MEP (EPP, FR)  and Jérôme Ferrier, incoming International Gas Union (IGU)  president on Tuesday 24 April at 19:00.

We believe that this is a key juncture to address the potential options for a fruitful and mutually beneficial collaboration between the renewables and gas industry, which could also help Europe achieve its climate and energy goals.  The event would provide you with an ideal opportunity to express views on how gas and renewables could work together to achieve the EU’s 2050 energy goals, in the company of high level speakers from the Commission, Parliament, gas sector and NGO community.

The debate is scheduled for Wednesday 25 April from 12:00 to 14:00 in JAN 6Q1.  It would be in the format of a panel, including an introduction from MEP Sartori then panel contributions by representatives from the gas and renewable sectors as well as by an energy expert and NGO, to be followed by a Q&A session.
